| Description |
This repository contains the RStudio code used to estimate Structural Equation Models via Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM), based on a Theory of Planned Behaviour survey, as well as the loop developed to stabilise the estimation of a Discrete Choice Experiment using mixed logit models. The code has been specifically developed for this study and enables full replication of the results reported in Ecological Economics. The dataset used in the analysis is also included in this repository to ensure transparency and reproducibility. This dataset contains the empirical data underlying the analysis of organisational attitudes, behavioural drivers, and preferences for forest carbon offset projects in Spain, as examined in the associated article published in Ecological Economics. The data combine two complementary components: (i) a structured survey grounded in the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), capturing organisational perceptions, motivations, and prior behaviour regarding carbon offsetting, and (ii) a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) designed to elicit stated preferences over key attributes of forest carbon projects, including project type, species composition, geographic location, and price. The survey data (dataset_RHCOffset.csv) include 249 observations and approximately 40 variables measuring attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, trust, risk perceptions, and organisational characteristics such as size, sector, and past offsetting behaviour. The experimental dataset (dataset_choice.csv), structured in long format (3,984 observations), records individual choices across repeated choice tasks and incorporates both project attributes and latent variable scores derived from the structural model. Data were collected from organisations registered in Spain’s Carbon Footprint Registry (Registro de Huella de Carbono, MITECO) through an anonymised survey administered using unique access links. Each respondent evaluated a random block of eight choice cards describing hypothetical carbon sequestration projects with varying attributes and price levels. The dataset is provided in CSV format and is accompanied by a detailed codebook describing all variables, coding schemes, and transformations. It enables full replication of the structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and mixed logit estimations presented in the article, as well as further research on organisational behaviour in voluntary carbon markets. The data are released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license to promote transparency, reproducibility, and reuse in environmental economics research. |
