Hemeroteca Nacional España-Periódicos españoles Repúblicas Sudamericanas del Pacífico (1833-1868)

This dataset, Hemeroteca Nacional España – Periódicos españoles Repúblicas Sudamericanas del Pacífico (1833–1868), compiles digitized press sources from the Biblioteca Nacional de España (Madrid), the Biblioteca Nacional de Chile (Santiago), and the Biblioteca Nacional de Perú (Lima). It covers Spanish newspaper reporting on the South American Pacific republics during the reign of Isabel II, with a particular focus on diplomatic, political, and cultural representations of Spain’s post-imperial interventionism. Collected between September 2024 and September 2025 through a critical historiographical method, the dataset includes documentary reading, transcription, and systematic recording managed with Zotero and Excel. By providing structured evidence of press discourses across three national repositories, it enables comparative analysis of Spanish and South American perspectives on geopolitical conflict and imperial legacies. The dataset is shared under a CC-BY license and is linked to several scholarly outputs, including forthcoming publications with Routledge, Journal of World History, and Historia Contemporánea.
