| Description |
This dataset provides annual, province-level statistics on public primary teachers in Spain from 1855 to 1980, a period spanning major shifts in Spanish educational administration and policy. We compiled counts of public primary teaching staff (both sexes) from official Spanish education statistics, standardizing nomenclature across repeated changes in school-ownership terminology. Two rates are provided for each province and year: public primary teachers per 1,000 population aged 6–12, and per 1,000 total population. For most gaps in the time series we applied linear interpolation to missing data points, with one exception. To fill the data gap immediately before and during the Spanish Civil War (1934–1940), we used growth-rate projection for 1934–1935 followed by linear interpolation through 1940. All data underwent systematic cross-checks and validation by project team members. |
